How Etsy fees actually work
Every Etsy sale carries a few separate fees. On their own they look small — together they add up to more than most sellers expect. Here's what comes out of each order (US sellers, standard Etsy Payments):
- Listing fee — $0.20 per listing. Charged when you list an item and again each time it sells or renews.
- Transaction fee — 6.5%. Applied to the item price and the shipping you charge.
- Payment processing — 3% + $0.25 per order (US). This varies by country.
- Offsite Ads — 12% or 15%. Only when a buyer reaches your listing through an Etsy ad. It's 15% for most shops and 12% once you pass $10k in sales over 12 months.
Why margin matters more than price
Two products at the same price can leave you with very different take-home pay once materials and fees come out. Margin — profit as a share of the sale — is the number that tells you whether a product is actually worth making. This calculator shows it per item; Martora tracks it automatically across every product you sell.
Estimates are for US sellers on standard Etsy Payments and don't include currency conversion, Etsy Plus, or region-specific regulatory operating fees. Always confirm current rates on Etsy's fees & policies page.
